European Master in Biological and Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Bioeconomy

Objectives

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) Bioceb is a 2-year international programme in Biological and Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Bioeconomy.

Bioceb aims to qualify students to cope with the challenges related to bioeconomy value chains, from biomass to bioproducts and markets. The programme is designed so as to provide the job market with highly adaptable and entrepreneurial scientists trained to holistic approach at different scales.

Selected students will follow an intensive curriculum during two years with mandatory mobility periods among the partner Universities , shared between academic courses, teamwork, practical trainings and internship for their MSc. thesis. This will allow them to acquire necessary competences and skills for their future professional responsibilities.

In order to promote the development of sustainable and circular bioeconomy systems, the programme goes beyond the biomass processing technical issues, by providing knowledge of green chemistry principles, tools for socio-economic and environmental assessment, experience of facing real-life bioeconomy challenges through projects and examples of flexible biorefinery systems adapted to local contexts.

Bioceb is part of the elite Erasmus Mundus Programme, renowned for its academic excellence and international mobility.

Successful Bioceb students will obtain a triple degree (according to their study track), i.e. National Master Degree certificates from the highly renowned European Partner Universities and a Bioceb with a Joint Diploma Supplement which encapsulate the jointness of the programme, the mobily experience of each student as well as information on the qualifications obtained and a full transcript of all ECTS credits obtained during the Master course .

Bioceb degrees awarded to the students at the end of the programme:

- Master in Integrative Biology and Physiology (IBP), study track Biomass Engineering for Bioeconomy (BEB), delivered by the Université Paris-Saclay (UPSaclay), operated by AgroParisTech ;

- Master of Science (Technology), delivered by the Aalto University;

- Master of Science in Engineering, delivered by Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), Estonia;

- Master : Bioingénieur en chimie et bioindustries, à finalité (Master in Bioengineering: Chemistry and Bio-industries), delivered by the University of Liège (ULiège);

- Master in Biology AgroSciences (BAS), delivered by the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne (URCA).

The official language of the Bioceb course is English with ample opportunities to learn the local language and culture.
