Bioceb

European Master in Biological and Chemical Engineering for a Sustainable Bioeconomy

NEOMA involvement in Bioceb as coordinator of the course “Bioeconomy”

NEOMA is among the most active business schools worldwide committed to address questions related to ecological transition. Through its Chair of Bioeconomy and sustainable development, located at Excellence European Center of Biotechnology and Bioeconomy CEBB near Reims, it carries out research activities around the two following areas : 1) developing sustainable agriculture for the bioeconomy and diverse regions and 2) bioeconomy value chains, between territories and globalization. The Chair is also at the origin of training initiatives, aiming at preparing students to consider the concerns surrounding sustainable transitions. As an example is the coordination by its director, Nicolas Béfort, of the new course on Bioeconomy specifically created for the Bioceb programme.

The first edition of the course was held at AgroParisTech from the 1st to the 15th of December 2021, in the framework of the M2 Biomass Engineering for Bioeconomy of Bioceb. The students of Bioceb Track 1 benefited from a wide international panel of Bioceconomy experts from Higher Education Institutions, among which the University of Hohenheim, member of the European Bioeconomy University consortium EBU. Along the lectures of these two weeks, the students were confronted to different facets of global bioeconomy that they could discuss based on their own backgrounds:

New economics of innovation (Dr. Andreas Pyka, University of Hohenheim, Germany)
Forest-based bioeconomy (Dr. Alex Giurca, Heidelberg Center for the Environment, Germany)
Ethical aspects of bioeconomy and Designing for sustainable future (Dr. Amos Taylos, University of Turku, Finland)
Overview of the bioeconomy & sustainability (Dalia D’Amato, Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science, University of Helsinki, Finland)
Applied Systems Science to Advance the Transitioning to Circular Bioeconomy (Deniz Koka, Lund University, Centre for Environmental and Climate Science, Sweden)
Efficiency, Market failure, public policy and the environment & The role of society in the transition towards a circular bioeconomy (Piergiuseppe Morone, University of Rome, Italy)
How to Detect Green & Carbon Neutrality Washing (Adrien Jahier, freelance consultant, trainer, and lecturer)
All students and lecturers appreciated this experience to be renewed next years.
